The number one reason a pet is abandoned, abused, relinquished, and/or euthanized is behavioral problems and/or misconceptions.  The second most common reason a child between the ages 3 and 9 is treated in an emergency room is injuries resulting from dog bites from a familiar dog.  We believe that we can change these statistics through humane education and behavioral education and training.

As part of our mission to educate and partner with our clients in the health and wellness of their pets, Rocky Shores Veterinary Hospital is proud to offer Puppy Kindergarten classes.  This program consists of four classes of 1 hour duration.  Topics include socialization, potty training, basic training methods and simple commands, and preventing and addressing unwanted behaviors.  This program allows puppies to socialize in a safe, controlled environment while desensitizing them to the sights, sounds, and scents of an animal hospital.  Puppy Kindergarten concludes with a Graduation Ceremony when the puppy graduates are presented with a diploma and a special gift to acknowledge their accomplishments.

Enrollment requirements:

  • Puppies must be between 2 and 6 months of age
  • Puppies must have had a negative fecal analysis
  • Puppies must be current on all vaccination boosters of DA2PP, Bordetella, and Rabies
  • Puppies must be current on all anti-parasitics, including flea and tick preventives
  • Patience and commitment are a must
  • Nominal fee of $10 for non-clients to cover the cost of materials

This program is free of charge for all current clients of Rocky Shores Veterinary Hospital.
